Newcastle are hurting. Steve Bruce is hurting.

The Magpies boss must have felt nervous watching the news in midweek when he saw Chelsea axing Frank Lampard. It is a ruthless industry and Bruce is the odds on favourite to be the next manager out of the door.

Everton (-1)

Goodison Park is tough place to go to and you need a lot of fight and energy to get something from the game. It’s a far from ideal fixture for a Newcastle side that looks tired and weary. In fairness to Bruce and his players, they did show a bit of fighting spirit in the second half against Leeds on Tuesday night but still lost 2-1 at home.

Everton come into this one having only lost one of their last eight games in the top flight. Ancelotti has improved Everton this season – it is what top quality managers with a proven record do. Abdoulaye Doucoure has been brilliant for the Toffees and with both Dominic Calvert-Lewin and James Rodriguez hinting that they may be about to return to form, it could be one-way traffic at lunch-time this Saturday at Goodison.

I fancy the toffees to comfortably cover the spread.

James Rodriguez to Score Anytime

Calvert-Lewin will be very popular in the First/Anytime Goalscorer markets but I have a sneaky feeling the value might lie with James Rodriguez.

The Former Bayern Munch man will be buzzing with his recent contributions for the side – he curled a cracker home with his right foot against high-flying Leicester on Wednesday night and registered a couple of assists in the recent FA Cup in the win against Sheffield Wednesday. The Colombian now has four goals and seven assists to his name. Not a bad start to his Everton career.

Over 2.5 goals

Everton have seen over 2.5 goals in their last four matches against Newcastle in all competitions. I think there is some value to be had in this market as most previews you will read this weekend will be suggesting the Unders. I just feel this fragile Newcastle side could part like the red sea if the Toffees can dominate from the off and get on the scoreboard early.
