Somewhere lost in all the furore of half the Premier League being potential title contenders are West Ham.

They’re level on points with Chelsea and are just five points off Liverpool. Now, for all that Jose Mourinho is having a footballing rebirth like we’re frequently told – what exactly is David Moyes having?

It’s a storyline that, in most other seasons when Man City and Liverpool are putting teams to the sword week in week out, people pick up on and the very likeable if slightly too-soundbite-friendly Scot could be hailed as a Manager of the Season candidate.

But unfortunately that’s overshadowed by a pandemic making every team in the league resemble Tranmere Rovers every other week.

And maybe the best example of that are West Bromwich Albion. Even just looking at results over the last six weeks, it reads like this: hammerings against Palace, Leeds and a comedy-sketch version of Arsenal, a loss to Newcastle – but a point at both Anfield and Eastlands before beating Wolves in a Black Country derby.

Good luck predicting the outcome when these two clubs meet, then.

Wait, what? Here’s your three best bets ahead of a Tuesday night cracker.

West Brom and the Draw

When in doubt, take two of the three options available to you.

If you can take solace in the selection, it’s worth noting that West Brom have taken each of their last five points in the Premier League on the road. They have taken more points away from home than at the Hawthorns this season – and they’re coming off the back of a win so Big Sam will smell blood rather than chippie tea.

The big thing with Allardyce is his pragmatism though, and you know full well that he picks and chooses his battles. The one thing he despises is a waste of resource and with Man City coming up straight after this game, you know that he believes he needs something from it.

Whether that materialises in success or not is besides the point, but there are certain games where you can rule out West Brom from even bothering to try and score a goal from open play – thankfully this won’t be one.

Semi Ajayi to Score Anytime

I always laugh when I tip a centre half to score. I had John Stones to score last week because of Brighton’s notable struggles in the air, and he didn’t hit the target. Bagged a brace straight after though, didn’t he? Classic.

It’s worth noting that West Ham’s transition to defensive solidarity is seismic and they’ve kept three cleans in a row now. There’s a growing sense that you need to possess creativity in the final third – something West Brom really lack.

But two of the last players to score against the Hammers in the Premier League are Thiago Silva and Lewis Dunk.

There’s an underlying weakness there and given Ajayi is as big a threat as anyone in the air, I feel it’s a price worth taking.

Football tips: Our deadly 6/1 Double for Tuesday’s Championship games

Jarrod Bowen to Have 2 or More Shots on Target

Bowen is now a regular in the Hammers lineup but his finishing is leaving a lot to be desired, especially when compared to the efficiency he’s seeing around him.

With a danger of him losing his place going forward, don’t be surprised to see the attacker take aim early and often to try and prove a point against West Brom.

Given he frequently picks up possession outside the box and the Baggies like to defend deep, he should be afforded plenty of opportunity to try his luck.
