Football Tips: Burnley to batter Fulham into submission on Sunday

A near full strength Burnley take on Covid-hit Fulham at Turf Moor on Sunday.

** UPDATE – SUNDAY’S BURNLEY V FULHAM MATCH HAS BEEN POSTPONED DUE TO A COVID-19 OUTBREAK **

A patched up Fulham travel to Burnley on Sunday lunchtime looking to improve on a run of four draws and a defeat in their last five. They will be up against it though, as Sean Dyche’s resurgent Clarets welcome Fulham to their happy place looking to take advantage of their visitors’ recent Covid outbreak.

Fulham boss Scott Parker is back in charge of the team after 10 days in isolation but he’ll likely be without a number of first-team players for this game. The Cottagers’ trip to Tottenham was postponed at late notice on Wednesday evening – much to the frustration of Instagram influencer and Tottenham boss Jose Mourinho.

With the situation looking a little confusing, let’s see if we can find some clarity with your three best bets.

Sunday 12pm: Burnley v Fulham
Sky Sports Main Event and Sky Sports Premier League

Burnley Win

My first thought was that this would be another tight game with both sides relatively happy to share the spoils in a low-scoring affair. However, we simply cannot ignore the effect this Covid outbreak will have on Fulham’s mindset, organisation and starting XI.

Add in the fact that the old Burnley have returned and you’re hard pressed to see anything other than a home win here. The Lancashire side have improved dramatically of late and after waiting until the eighth game of the season for their first Premier League win, they’ve gone on and racked up a further three over the next seven games.

They’re back to doing what they do best – keeping it tight and making the most of the few chances that they do get. Fulham have shown improvement but their chances of the right kind of positive result here might have been taken out of their hands because of their less desirable positive results elsewhere. Backing the Burnley Win is the way to go on Sunday.

Over 2.5 Goals

Now, Over 2.5 Goals is always one to avoid when Burnley take to the field – unless they’re vising The Etihad, of course. But this is a decent-enough price and you can guarantee Burnley are going to be relishing the rare thought of heading into a Premier League match as the clear favourites.

Over 2.5 Goals has only landed in one of The Clarets’ last five (a 2-1 win over Wolves) and none of Fulham’s outings over the same period. But, with it unclear who is going to be available for the away side it’s worth taking a chance that they regress to their dishevelled and disorganised state from the start of the season and that Burnley take the rare opportunity to run riot with Over 2.5 Goals.

Chris Wood to Score First

Burnley have only scored nine goals in the league this season and a third of them have come from Chris Wood. He and Ashley Barnes are back on form and are batting opposition defences with their glorious old-school style.

It’s bearing fruit for Burnley and, if we consider the fact the away side are likely to be lacking their recent organisation with a patched up and makeshift defence, you can expect Barnes and Wood to have a field day. As the latter has slightly better form in front of goal we’re on Chris Wood to Score First in this one.
