Paddy’s football ambassador Phil Thompson is back to bring you some festive cheer with PPTV as he takes a look at top of the tree Liverpool’s game at Anfield against second-bottom West Brom.
New Baggies boss Big Sam Allardyce will have had a few days to work with his squad, but Thommo doesn’t think it’ll be nearly enough to avoid a heavy beating at the home of the champions.
Liverpool v West Brom
Big Sam’s always had a thing about Liverpool – not a nice thing! He’s always wanted to have a moan about something or other. I wanted to say my big mate Sammy Lee – or should I say my little mate Sammy Lee – he’s back in town, back at Anfield!
This is going to be a tough one for West Brom. They’ve not been great and lost 3-0 at home last time. I know they got the red card which didn’t help matters and Sam must have thought, ‘Oh my goodness, what have we done here?’
Sunday 4.30pm: Liverpool v West Brom
Sky Sports Main Event and Sky Sports Premier League
They’ve lost nine out of 14 in the Premier League and they’ve won just one of the last 18 in all league games. Things are not happening for them and they’ve conceded 29 goals. It’s only Leeds who have let in more.
Liverpool are nine points worse off at this stage than they were last year, it’s amazing when you see that. But they’re unbeaten in 10 and are the top scorers in the Premier League. This is a proper home banker but it’s a question of where is the value.
West Brom will be very, very defensive but it’s up to Liverpool to try and break them down. It’ll be interesting if Thiago plays some part. I’m not pinning my hopes on that but the sooner he’s back the better.
THOMMO’S TIPS: I’m going to go for 4-0 to Liverpool. In terms of the goals, I’m backing the three amigos to score. It hasn’t happened for a while so Sadio Mane, Roberto Firmino and Mo Salah all to Score Anytime.
I think they’ll all play; Salah was rested last weekend so I hope he doesn’t rest any of them this weekend! I would go for Sadio Mane to Score First. That little bit of pace around the box, I think he might break the deadlock.
