For Wednesday night’s Champions League action we’re taking a look at the big names going up against each other in Groups A and B where Atletico Madrid host Lokomotiv Moscow, Bayern Munich take on RB Salzburg and in the glamour tie of the night, Inter entertain Real Madrid at the San Siro. Let’s have a look at our value picks.
Atletico vs Lokomotiv: Atletico to Win 1-0, 2-0, or 3-0
Atleti haven’t had a good first half to their Group A campaign, winning one, drawing one and losing one of their three matches. Lokomotiv haven’t been good either with two draws and a loss. The Madrid side are formidable at home though, they’ve now gone 19 matches at the Wanda Metropolitana without a loss and kept 12 clean sheets over those 19 matches. They’re one of the stingiest teams on the planet.
Lokomotiv are on a rotten run at the minute as well, winning just one of their last five matches, drawing one and losing three. On their travels their results are the same and their away Champions League form has seen them win just one match over their last seven. Salzburg put up a good fight in the reverse fixture, until the 79th minute anyway. They’d led 1-0 then fought back to 2-2 after going behind but then Bayern, like a cat playing with its prey, got a bit fed up and mauled them 2-6, scoring four goals in the last 11 minutes.
It can be hard to find markets with decent odds when such dominant and free-scoring teams face each other. Bayern have already scored 28 over their eight Bundesliga matches and 12 over their three CL matches. Salzburg have 26 over their eight in the Austrian Bundesliga and six over their three in the CL. Inter come into this one as large favourites against Los Blancos who have been hit badly by injuries of late. Should we lump on Inter? Well, they’re not exactly in good form of late, neither side is. Inter have won one, drawn three and lost one of their last five. Real have won two, drawn two and lost one. In home vs away records they share the same stats, two wins, two draws and one loss each. When stats are so even picking a winner isn’t easy but both teams are scoring loads of goals and we can look at the Overs markets here.
Over 2.5 goals has occurred in all five of Inter’s most recent home matches. It has occurred in three of Real’s five most recent on the road. Over 3.5 goals has landed in four of those matches for Inter and in three of Real’s and with both teams needing the three points here we’re going with goals. Our pick is Over 3.5 of ’em.
