On Saturday night some of the big names in the top tier of the Nations League will be battling it out for the three points on offer. We’ll be taking a look at Group Three where Sweden, still on zero points, host Croatia, and Group Four where Germany take on Ukraine and Switzerland entertain Spain.
We’ve put our value hat on here and found a nice little treble here, read on to find out what we’re picking.
7.45pm: Sweden vs Croatia – Croatia to Win
Sweden, rooted to the bottom of Group Three, are on a terrible run of late, just one win out of their last five matches and all four others were losses. At home things are a bit better – they’ve won three out of their last five, losing to Portugal and France.
Croatia drew 3-3 away to Turkey midweek and have won two, drawn one and lost two over their five most recent. On the road they’re struggling of late with just one win over their last six on their travels, drawing three and losing two. Sweden are in rotten form and have failed to score in both of their last two home matches. Croatia on the other hand have scored at least two in their three most recent and thanks to that difference in scoring records the value here is with the away side.
7.45pm: Germany vs Ukraine – Germany to Win & BTTS
Germany are massive favourites here but they’re not winning as much as you’d expect of late. Of their last six matches they’ve won two and drawn four and could only beat the Czech Republic 1-0 midweek. Ukraine pulled off a huge shock last month beating Spain in Kiev in a half-full stadium but other than that they’ve lost four of their five – albeit missing an early penalty against Poland midweek and coming close on a few occasions. Their results aren’t as good as the team is but they’re just not delivering under manager Andriy Shevchenko yet.
The Germans are scoring, but also conceding plenty at home of late. They’ve netted 20 over their seven most recent on home turf, conceding 10. Ukraine have scored six over their five most recent on the road and especially with Germany’s goals-against record they should get one here. The hosts should come out on top. They’ve been drawing too often at home but are coming up against a side who are on a terrible run of results and they have the experience and firepower to take all three points at the Red Bull Arena.
7.45pm: Switzerland vs Spain – Both Teams to Score
Switzerland seem to be all out of luck of late, they’ve not won in any of their last six fixtures but had won four out of their five previous to that. They’re a decent side but they’re just not clicking of late. Spain too aren’t exactly their usual selves, they’ve won two, drawn two and lost one of their last five but they are top of Group Four with two wins, one draw and a loss.
Switzerland’s scoring record at home is good though – they’ve scored at least one in seven out of their last eight, while Spain have scored at least one in five out of their last seven on the road. With Switzerland in less than favourable form the price on Spain is tempting, but they’re just not winning enough away for us to go with them. But with both in decent goal-scoring form Both Teams to Score is the best bet here.
