This is the great game in the calendar now, isn’t it? Liverpool v Manchester City has taken on some serious meaning. I am a total admirer of Manchester City, of Pep Guardiola, the way they play their football.
They have been a little bit venerable this season, they are working hard to get it right. This is two teams coming off fantastic midweek victories in the Champions League. It’s two teams who are in fine form. Let’s hope we have an absolute cracker.

City only won 1-0 last week against Sheffield United. They’ll be relieved that Gabriel Jesus is now back in the fold but Liverpool have their new-found star in Diogo Jota – what a player he’s been.
Jota reminds me of Sadio Mane. If you look at Mane when he was at Southampton, people know of him, they’ve seen him and know he’s quick. But what Klopp looks for in a player is intelligence and an understanding of the press.
Mane’s become a superstar at Liverpool and Jota already has these things in his locker from his time at Wolves. I’ve seen it myself, I knew he had it. The day he signed for Liverpool I thought it was a proper coup.
It will be interesting to see if Jurgen Klopp goes with Roberto Firmino or if he goes with the flying three and starts Jota through the middle. This is a fascinating game and I can see goals.
THOMMO’S TIP: I fancy 2-2 in this one, I really do. I think it will ebb and flow, this game. And you can see them both trying to keep possession, trying to draw each other out, trying to break through that high press. I think it’s going to be fascinating. But I still don’t think both sides defensively are as good as they should be and that’s why I’m thinking there’s going to be goals.
