A fireball spotted hurtling through the sky in Lincolnshire has been identified as the ball Darwin Nunez blazing open-goal miss during Liverpool’s clash with Aston Villa.
The flaming ball with a bright streak trailing behind it was seen shooting over homes across the region shortly after the full-time whistle at Villa Park.

Nunez missed a clear-cut chance to win Liverpool the game at Villa when he skied the ball from five yards with 21 minutes left on the clock.
Astronomers initially believed the fireball was the remains of a SpaceX Falcon 9 rocket that launched a series of Elon Musk’s Starlink satellites earlier this month.
However, the British Astronomers Guild have now confirmed it was the Total 90s inspired Nike Flight Premier League ball struck over the Villa Park crossbar by Nunez.
‘The ball struck a Starlink satellite in low orbit before making its way back to Earth’, a BAG spokesperson told Paddy Power News.
‘We expected the Nike Flight to burn up when it re-entered the Earth’s atmosphere, but I guess that’s a proper Barclays ball for you’.

Social media posts suggest Nunez’s ball was spotted as far away as the Netherlands which drew praise from Liverpool skipper Virgil van Dijk.
‘Some friends back in Holland told me they could see the ball in the sky and sent me videos’, the Dutchman told Paddy Power News.
‘Darwin has the ability to put a tap-in into orbit, we see it every day in training. And he’s always smiling. Especially after missing a sitter in a crucial game. What a guy!’.
Meanwhile, Nunez has vowed to ‘never give up’ after it took him three attempts to write a tweet.
The Uruguayan striker took to social media this morning to tell Liverpool fans he would continue to fight for the badge following his horror miss.
However, in typical fashion, the 25-year-old took three wild swings at the tweet before getting it right.
Addressing his struggles in front of the keyboard in a new post, the former Benfica star wrote.
‘I will come back a stronger speller from this’.
