Anti-Celebration Working Group to focus attention on Goodison Park scenes

The joyous scenes after Everton's equaliser in the Merseyside derby have irked misery guts' everywhere

An anti-celebration working group is to focus their attention on Everton Football Club following their Merseyside derby draw with fierce rivals Liverpool.

It follows claims that Everton ‘over-exuberantly celebrated’ when the final whistle blew at Goodison Park on Wednesday night.

 

Local rivals Liverpool looked to be heading nine points clear at the top of the Premier League until James Tarkowski lashed home a late leveller that was only awarded after VAR checks for offside and a foul.

But lead investigator on the killjoy task force Jamie Carragher could see no argument for the raucous outburst of emotion following the final whistle.

‘Last night we received reports of wild celebrations at Goodison Park’.

‘Upon arriving at the scene, Celebration Police Officers found thousands of grown men cheering and hugging each other.

 

‘Others were wildly gesticulating at rival supporters and and using vulgar language and hand gestures.

‘This kind of behaviour at elite level football matches is totally unacceptable.

‘There can be no justification for these types of celebrations. Not even a 98th minute equaliser against your bitterest rivals who are going for a league title in the final derby game to be played in your 131-year-old stadium before it’s demolished.

‘No justification at all’.

When asked what an acceptable celebration might be under the circumstances, Celebration Police Chief Constable Carragher said:

‘Perhaps a brief ripple of applause or a gentle nod of the head to show your appreciation for the player’s efforts’.

Meanwhile, anti-celebration authorities also confirmed they’ve received reports of thousands of Liverpool fans after the game drunk tweeting and committing acts of first degree hypocrisy.

‘One Liverpool fan is helping with our enquiries after posting a series of inebriated tweets claiming Everton celebrated like they won the Premier League, the Champions League, the Ashes and the Grand National’, the working group vice-chairman Richard Keys told us.

‘However, the suspect also admitted defending Liverpool when they celebrated a 2-2 draw at home to yo-yo Premier League club West Brom as if they’d won the Six Nations’.
