Who will survive the dreaded drop?

We’re past the halfway point of the season and we look set for an exciting battle to avoid the drop – so check out all the Premier League odds on the Paddy Power website and app.

Last season, for the first time since 1998, all three promoted teams dropped straight back down to the Championship, but how will the new sides fair this time?

The newly-promoted trio of Leicester City, Ipswich Town and Southampton are struggling to keep their heads above water but established sides Crystal Palace, Everton and Wolves have also made poor starts to keep things interesting.

Here’s a rundown of the teams that are expected to be in the fight.

Southampton

It’s no surprise that the Championship play-off winners are the favourites to go down – and they’ve already swung the axe on Russell Martin after a terrible start.

They have some Premier League experience in their squad, but will need to take points off those around them if they are to have any chance of staying up.

The Saints picked up their first win at the 10th attempt as Everton were beaten at St Mary’s, although they’ve failed to kick on.

Leicester City

Not only did they lose their manager from last season’s Championship-winning campaign, but Leicester also saw key midfielder Kiernan Dewsbury-Hall follow Enzo Maresca to Chelsea.

The Foxes appointed a well-established coach in the form of Steve Cooper, although they are now on their second manager of the campaign after firing the ex-Nottingham Forest gaffer.

Can new boss Rudd van Nistelrooy fire Leicester to safety? It’s looking unlikely with only 14 points on the board.

Ipswich Town

Ipswich were the surprise package in the second tier last season to earn back-to-back promotions under highly-rated manager Kieran McKenna.

The Northern Irishman has coaching experience in the Premier League with Manchester United, but his budget is dwarfed by big-spending rivals.

They have collected points from nearly half of their fixtures, although they need to kick on if they want to stay up, though.

Wolves

Wolves were one of the most surprising sides in the Premier League last season, finishing 10th under Gary O’Neil, despite being tipped to struggle.

While they weren’t expected to be in too much bother this time around, their season has started poorly with just 16 points registered from 21 games.

O’Neil has paid the price and Vitor Pereira is tasked with leading the club to safety.

Everton

The Toffees remain in turmoil. It’s the final Premier League campaign at the iconic Goodison Park as they prepare to move into their new stadium next year.

Fans will be hoping they’re still a top-flight side by then, but the early signs are not great after bagging just 17 points from their first 20 games.

Sean Dyche has been axed as a result of their poor form and former boss David Moyes has returned. Can he revive the club’s fortunes?

Next Fixture: Tottenham (H) Sun. Jan 19 – 14:00
