Arsenal are on the lookout for an open-play coach following the success of set-piece specialist Nicolas Jover.
Jover has turned the Gunners into the Premier League’s best team from dead-balls since poaching him from Manchester City following a superb 2-year spell at the Etihad.
The German-born French football coach can be seen prowling the touchline every time Arsenal get a corner, or a TV camera is nearby.
His impact is such that Arsenal boss Mikel Arteta believes his side might benefit from being able to score goals from open-play too.
This revolutionary thinking has led the Spaniard to scour the market for a coach of this nature.
‘I’m looking for an open-play coach to join our existing play-for-a-corner project’, Arteta told Paddy Power News.
‘Some people might call me crazy, but I believe there is a place in modern football for non-set-piece goals.
‘Purists will say corner kicks bouncing off William Saliba’s arse are how goals should be scored but there’s a place for overhead bicycle kicks too.
‘It will not be easy to get all the players on board with this philosophy at first, but with time and the right coaching, I can see Arsenal scoring a goal from an open passage of play in the not-too-distant future’.
Meanwhile, Jover says he is receptive to the move and would be willing to work alongside an open-play coach – provided it’s not Newcastle United assistant boss Jason Tindall.
‘Open-play goals have become an increasingly significant part of the modern game, and I will embrace Mikel’s proposal with an open mind and heart’, Jover told Paddy Power News.
‘But if Lego hair thinks I’m sharing my place on the touchline with Jason Tindal, well, he can f*** off.
‘The camera man is having a hard enough time focusing on me without that perma-tanned exhibitionist getting in on the act.
‘I left City because Pep kept hogging the screen time. I’ll leave this mob too’.
