New Manchester United boss Ruben Amorim made some unwanted headlines last night after storming the stage during an Ed Sheeran concert.
The 39-year-old Portuguese interrupted the singer while he was performing his No 1 hit single Thinking Out Loud during a charity gig in Ipswich.
Just moments after Sheeran began singing, Amorim stormed the stage, taking the microphone from the lifelong Tractor Boys fan to claim the song was a rip-off of Marvin Gaye’s 1973 hit Let’s Get It On.
‘Yo, Ed. I’m really happy for you. I’m gonna let you finish but Marvin Gaye’s “Let’s Get It On” is one of the best songs of all time’, Amorim shouted to a mortified Sheeran and a speechless audience.
Sources claim Sheeran was seen hysterically crying backstage after Amorim’s outburst.
Discussing the incident with Paddy Power News, the popstar told us:
‘It’s probably the worst thing that’s happened since I did that carpool karaoke with James Corden’.
‘Apart from having the exact same chord progression as “Let’s Get It On”, I don’t see any similarities between the two songs at all.
‘I’m so incensed by the whole thing, honestly, I’ve a good mind to never gatecrash another football manager’s post-match interview on Sky Sports again’.
Paddy Power News understands Sky have shelved plans to have Sheeran provide analysis of yesterday’s clash between United and Ipswich on Monday Night Football in the wake of the incident.
It’s rumoured either Sam Smith or Adele will replace him with Smith particularly keen on breaking down Amorim’s new 3-4-3 system for the viewers at home.
In related news, Sky Sports pundit Roy Keane was spotted in the Portman Road carpark offering Ipswich fans ‘a square go’.
‘You want some? I’ll give it ya’, the 53-year-old Irishman was overheard saying to fans as they poured out of the stadium following their side’s 1-1 draw with United.
