PGMOL confirm James Milner is ‘alright’ after VAR review

Stockley Park have weighed in on David Coote's initial assessment of the former Liverpool midfielder... and his ex-coach

PGMOL have confirmed that Brighton midfielder James Milner is a sound bloke after a lengthy VAR review.

Referee David Coote’s initial on-sofa decision was to award Milner ‘alright’ status during an afters sesh in his mate’s gaff.

However, Coote’s decision was followed by a lengthy check by the Video Assistant Referee, who eventually confirmed that Milner was a decent lad.

Explaining the decision in a post on X, the Premier League Match Centre said:

‘The referee’s call of ‘James Milner’s alright’ was checked and confirmed by the VAR who spoke to some other refs and a few lads Milner went to school with’.

‘Milner’s school friends said he always shared his sweets and wasn’t a tattletale who went crying to the teacher. The decision stands. Nice fella’.

It was not the first time VAR had to intervene in the sesh, with Coote being less complimentary about former Liverpool boss Jurgen Klopp.

With the seconds ticking away on Coote’s career, the 42-year-old official’s next contentious on-sofa decision was to award Klopp James Blunt status.

Explaining that call, the Premier League Match Centre said:

‘The referee’s call that Jurgen Klopp is a Rex Hunt was checked and confirmed by VAR’.

‘Klopp was deemed to be a Chris Brunt mainly because of his moaning about 12.30 kick-offs and that time he said Liverpool lost to City because Alisson’s feet were cold’.

The decisions have brought a lot of scrutiny on Coote’s performance during the sesh and the Nottinghamshire-based official is hoping to put the incidents behind him.

‘Calling Klopp a German c**t on camera on a random blokes sofa at 3am is probably my worst decision since I forgot to check for a red card when Pickford broke Van Djik’s knee in half’, Coote told Paddy Power News.

‘But we move onto the next game when I’ll be a referee’s assistant. I’m really looking forward to doing the line’.
