Manchester United are organising an open top bus parade to celebrate Sporting Lisbon’s Champions League victory over rivals Manchester City.
Old Trafford chiefs want to show their appreciation to incoming boss Ruben Amorim after he pulled off United’s greatest result since Sir Alex Ferguson’s retirement back in 2013.
There were wild celebrations across the red half of Manchester after Amorim’s Sporting side crushed City 4-1 in the Portuguese’s final game at the Estádio José Alvalade.
To mark the momentous occasion, United are planning an open-top bus parade through the streets of Manchester when they will show off their ‘our new manager beat your manager with a different club’ trophy.
It’s also understood United will release a commemorative DVD entitled ‘Class of 24’ as part of the celebrations.
‘When you look at the highlights of the last 10-years – Louis van Gaal talking about S&M during a post-match interview; Lingard dabbing at the Emirates and Alexis Sanchez playing the piano – Amorim beating City while someone else’s manager eclipses them all’, United owner Sir Jim Ratcliffe told close associates.
‘It’s only fitting that we should piggyback Ruben’s success by parading through the city’.
Asked if Amorim would be part of the celebrations, Ratcliffe said:
‘He played his part in this too, I guess’.
Meanwhile, Ratcliffe confirmed United are interested in signing Sporting striker Viktor Gyokeres after the Swede’s hattrick heroics against City.
‘Allowing a new manager to sign all the players he worked with at his previous club has worked so well for us in the past. So, why not?’, said the INEOS CEO.
‘Dan Ashworth values Viktor at around £100m – despite selling him to Coventry for £1m while he was Brighton’s director of football’.
In related news, Oasis star Noel Gallagher has CANCELLED the band’s reunion tour following City’s defeat in Lisbon.
The 57-year-old City fan was a surprise inclusion on commentary for TNT Sports coverage of the game but was taken off air after only 90 seconds.
Speaking on co-comms, Gallagher was heard saying ‘I didn’t think it would be this easy’ moments before a child-size shoe became lodged in his throat.
Gallagher’s management released a statement earlier today confirming the cancellation of the hotly anticipated reunion gigs as the musician recuperates after surgery.
‘Noel is recovering well after undergoing a complicated 3-hour procedure to have his own foot removed from his mouth’, it read.
