Lee Carsley might have passed up the job as Ireland manager but he can still find his way back into the hearts of home fans this weekend.
Paddy’s plastered a huge message to the interim England manager on a billboard ahead of his first match in charge of the Three Lions against Ireland at the Aviva Stadium at 5pm on Saturday.
The sign is situated close to the venue at The Storyteller on Dublin’s Grand Canal Street in the hopes Gareth Southgate’s successor, who happens to be an ex-Ireland international himself, might clap eyes on it on his way to the Nations League clash against the Boys In Green.
Lee, you’re one result away from being an Irish legend
We considered putting a good luck message to Heimir Hallgrímsson up there ahead of his first night in charge but we couldn’t stretch to that many characters so decided to change tack with a direct appeal to Carsley.
More than half of Irish punters betting on the match in Paddy Power shops have their money down on England to win.
Just 5% of stakes so far are on the likelihood of a draw and the remaining 42% are backing former Iceland coach Hallgrímsson, who famously knocked England out at Euro 2016, to reverse Ireland’s fortunes and win.
