Breaking: Gareth Southgate spotted trying on waistcoats at Trafford Centre

He's tailor-made for the Man United role according to Sir Jim Ratcliffe

Former England boss Gareth Southgate has been spotted trying on waistcoats in Manchester’s largest indoor shopping complex Paddy Power News can exclusively reveal.

The 53-year-old is hotly tipped to succeed under fire Manchester United boss Erik ten Hag whose position once again is under intense scrutiny following his side’s 3-0 home defeat against fierce rivals Liverpool.

Club sources claim new United owners INEOS are considering sacking the Dutchman after he admitted during a press conference yesterday that he wasn’t Harry Potter.

The revelation sent shockwaves around Old Trafford as United’s hierarchy firmly believed Ten Hag was an 11-year-old wizard when they agreed to extend his contract in the summer.

In a heated press conference, the former Ajax boss told stunned reporters:

‘It is clear, I am not Harry Potter. I am not even Graham Potter’.

‘It is true that I described myself as a tactical wizard during the job interview, but I have no magical powers. If I did, I would make Casemiro disappear. No?’.

Ten Hag stormed out of the press conference when a journalist called him Lord Baldemort.

The uncertainty around the 54-year-old’s future has led to talk that Southgate is being lined up as his replacement.

His sighting in Manchester’s Trafford Centre has added fuel to the speculation but the former Middlesborough boss is remaining coy.

‘I heard the Trafford Centre has the finest selection of waistcoats in the country. That’s why I’m in Manchester’, Southgate told Paddy Power News.

‘What type do I prefer? Grey ones. Plain grey’.

When asked if there was any truth in the rumours he wears shin pads while playing FIFA, Southgate said:

‘Yes, it’s true. And I always stop at red lights while I’m playing GTA. You can never be too cautious these days’.
