The big boys are coming to play as the Premier League’s European representatives enter the Carabao Cup in the third round.
Liverpool, last season’s winners, are among the seven sides set to take their place in the tournament, although a free draw means they could be handed a tricky tie to begin their title defence.
There is a twist for the Carabao Cup third round, however, as the beefed-up continental competitions means this stage will be played over two midweek periods – and Champions League clubs cannot face Europa League teams.

Carabao Cup draw time
The Carabao Cup third-round draw is scheduled to start following the conclusion of Nottingham Forest v Newcastle at approximately 22:15.
Carabao Cup draw format
In a change from tradition, the draw for the third round of the Carabao Cup will take place over two stages.
That’s because of UEFA’s decision to increase the number of games in their competitions means Champions League and Europa League ties will force the latest stage of the Carabao Cup to be split over two midweek slots.
The six Premier League teams involved in the Champions League and Europa League – Manchester City, Arsenal, Liverpool, Aston Villa, Tottenham and Manchester United – will be put in a separate bowl – bowl one – and pre-drawn to determine which match they will play and whether they are at home or away.
Crucially, they cannot face each other.
The other 26 teams will then be drawn from bowl two as per normal.
