It’s the moment we’ve all been waiting for. Nope, not the UEFA Super Cup itself, but Kylian Mbappe’s debut for Real Madrid.
One of the longest-running transfer sagas in football history finally came to a close earlier this summer when the Spanish capital club confirmed the Frenchman’s signature on a freebie from Paris Saint-Germain.
Sure, he hasn’t quite cost nothing as Los Blancs have, no doubt, forked out a massive signing bonus and other sums to get the deal over the line, but not having to pay a transfer fee for, arguably, the world’s best player is not a bad bit of business.
After enjoying a well-earned break following his exploits at Euro 2024, in which he suffered a broken nose the poor lad, Mbappe is ready to begin his maiden season at the Bernabeu.
He is set to pull on the famous white jersey for the first time in the Super Cup clash between last season’s Champions League winners and Europa League victors at the Kazimierz Górski National Stadium in Warsaw, Poland tonight.

Mbappe did not feature for Real Madrid in pre-season after a busy summer playing for France at Euro 2024.
The 25-year-old has been in training with his new team-mates for the past week, however, and “could play” against Atalanta, according to manager Carlo Ancelotti.
As well as being blessed with the world’s most expressive eyebrows, the Real Madrid boss has a stacked attack to pick from including Vinícius Júnior, Rodrygo, Jude Bellingham, Arda Güler and fellow new boy Endrick.
Quite frankly, it shouldn’t come as a surprise if Mbappe starts as a substitute and makes his debut off the bench.
Will Kylian Mbappe wear a mask against Atalanta?
Euro 2024 is probably already a distant memory, but cast your mind back and you’ll recall that Mbappe broke his nose in France’s opening game in the tournament.
As gruesome as it was, we got to see the Frenchman run around wearing a snazzy mask, but it wasn’t an experience he enjoyed.
“It is horrible playing with a mask,” he moaned. “I keep changing because there is something that bothers me
“It is difficult to play because it limits vision, the sweat clogs up. The first few days felt like I was wearing 3D glasses — as soon as I can get it off I will but I don’t have a choice.
“I hate it, it is really annoying.”
He ditched the mask for France’s semi-final defeat to Spain and it probably won’t be making another appearance unless he breaks his nose again.
