Exclusive: Inside Tottenham’s secret plan to re-sign Harry Kane

Harry Kane's status as a Spurs legend was further bolstered by his refusal to collect the Visit Malta Cup - could they tempt him to return?

Tottenham chief Daniel Levy sensationally attempted to woo Harry Kane back to North London during their recent preseason friendly against Bayern Munich, Paddy Power News understands.

Rumours swirled during the Visit Malta Cup final on Saturday suggesting the fixture was in fact an elaborate ruse on Spurs’ part to entice Kane back to his old stomping ground.

“Look, all I’m going to say is Daniel was talking up this competition like it was the Champions League and World Cup combined in the corporate boxes,” we were told.

“Once Harry’s won a ‘big trophy’ he’ll surely want to get back to Spurs and continue winning nothing, the theory goes.”

Further, the Tottenham top dog was also seen handing over a piece of paper to Kane’s agent, Charlie Kane, asking if the striker wouldn’t mind giving him an autograph, only for it to be revealed in fact it was another six-year contract to return to Tottenham with immediate effect.

“Charlie never read it – just like the last time Harry signed a contract with Spurs, as it happens – and it was signed!” we were told.

“It worked then but got soaked in champagne during the trophy celebrations after this game and was destroyed. Nice try,” our source said.

The news comes after Kane sensationally refused to collect the trophy on Saturday evening after his new side beat his old team at the Tottenham Naming Rights TBD Stadium on Saturday evening.

In surprising scenes after the win, the ex-Spurs man was seen pushing his current teammates away as they suggested he should be the first to pick up the pot despite seeing more silverware than Buckingham Palace’s cupboards slip past him in a goal-laden though trophy-less run at the North London club.

And a source close to the striker explained that he didn’t wish to insult his old club.

“Look, Harry could be back here some day – how would it look if he went winning things and celebrating stuff? That’s not the Tottenham way.”

In fact, Kane’s loyalty to Spurs is said to burn so brightly still that he tried to get Munich to change the colour of their home kit this season from red.

“Red’s Arsenal. innit,” he was reported to have said when the shirt was unveiled, before complaining to the Bavarian club hierarchy, who are believed to have filed his official request in the paper as soon as they opened it.

And with that sowing possible discontent, his former club is said to be optimistic they can tempt him back before they spaff £65m on Dominic Solanke.

“Ange Postecoglou’s already working on building a persuasive pitch for Harry to return,” a Spurs insider explained.

“He’ll show Harry a picture of the Champions League cup and say ‘call that a trophy?!’”

“Then he’ll pull a t-shirt from his pocket with “#1 SPURS LEGEND FOREVER AND EVER” scrawled on it in marker saying ‘THIS is a trophy’!”

“It can’t fail,” our source claimed, before being carried away by two men in white coats.
