Roll up, roll up! The opening salvo of the 2024/25 campaign is set to take place when Manchester United and Manchester City face off in the Community Shield at Wembley this weekend.
Sure, it’s just a glorified friendly masquerading as a competitive match that provides the first piece of silverware of the season, but it’s still an important date on the footballing calendar.
At the very least, it is likely to send one set of fans into meltdown before a (proper) ball has even been kicked, which should be fun.
As well as being a Manchester derby, it is a repeat of last season’s FA Cup final when Erik ten Hag’s team rather surprisingly got the better of Pep Guardiola’s treble chasers.
