Arsenal v Bayer Leverkusen prediction, team news and kick-off time

Can Arsenal continue their impressive pre-season?

Mikel Arteta and Xabi Alonso

Pre-season is coming to an end as teams prepare for the return of competitive games, but there are still some friendlies left to play.

With the Premier League kicking off in just under two weeks, Arsenal are holding two final pre-season games at the Emirates Stadium to make sure they are at full fitness ahead of the opening weekend.

The Gunners have spent the majority of the summer on tour in the USA where they played Bournemouth, Manchester United and Liverpool.

Now, they have returned to north London to take on Bundesliga champions Bayer Leverkusen, who went the entire 2023/24 domestic campaign without suffering defeat.

Arsenal v Leverkusen team news

All five Arsenal players involved at the business stage of Euro 2024 – Aaron Ramsdale, David Raya, Declan Rice, Bukayo Saka and William Saliba – have now returned to training and could be in line to feature for this first time in pre-season on Wednesday.

New signing Riccardo Calafiori could also make his unofficial debut after missing the final game in the USA against Liverpool.

As for Leverkusen, full-backs Jeremie Frimpong and Alejandro Grimaldo are the only two players who remain on holiday.

Despite being heavily linked with a move to Bundesliga rivals Bayern Munich, centre-back Jonathan Tah is expected to be involved.

Arsenal Predicted XI:  Raya; White, Timber, Calafiori, Zinchenko; Odegaard, Partey, Havertz; Nelson, Jesus, Martinelli

Leverkusen Predicted XI:  Hradecky; Kossounou, Tah, Hincapie; Tella, Garcia, Xhaka, Belocian; Wirtz, Terrier; Boniface

Arsenal v Bayer Leverkusen prediction

Given Arsenal now have the majority of their players back they head into this one as slight favourites on paper.

The home advantage will help them but given Leverkusen only lost one game last season it won’t be an easy victory. We’re going for a tight 3-2.
