Can the Blues slay the Dragons in California?

Raheem Sterling, Chelsea, October 2023

Chelsea’s road to the new Premier League season starts with a clash against EFL League One side Wrexham in sunny California.

Following the departure of Mauricio Pochettino at the end of the previous campaign, the era of Enzo (Maresca) is now set to begin, as the Blues aim to pus for a top four finish in 2024/25.

Maresca will not have the same budget to work with his Pochettino and his predecessors in the coming weeks but there are expected to be some new faces at Stamford Bridge.

Wrexham’s Hollywood-backed fairy tale continues to climb the Football League pyramid and they are back in the third tier for the first time in two decades.

Chelsea v Wrexham prediction

Chelsea have not played a game since the end of the 2023/24 season with Maresca putting his charges through a gruelling preseason training camp back in the UK.

The new man in charge will be eager to make a winning first impression and they should have enough to pick up a 3-1 Chelsea win.
