England are on the hunt for a new manager after Gareth Southgate resigned from the hottest seat going.
He was in charge for eight years, taking the Three Lions to two major finals, but England’s hunt for silverware will go into a 60th year at the World Cup in 2026.
His contract was due to expire at the end of the year but, following their latest heartbreak, Southgate has decided to pass the reins on to someone else.
From Big Sam to Sven via Steve McClaren, Fabio Capello and Roy Hodgson, there’s been a broad church of styles, nationalities and outcomes for England managers and the only question now is, who’s next in line?
Here are the latest odds on who’s near the top of the next England manager betting.

Eddie Howe
Eddie Howe was linked with every job going before taking over at Newcastle. The former Bournemouth boss has done a fine job at St James’ Park after guiding the Magpies back to the Champions League for the first time in 20 years in 2023. But with the Magpies’ form dipping last season, question marks could be raised over his long-term future at St James’ Park.
Graham Potter
Former Chelsea and Brighton boss Graham Potter is biding his time for the right job as he bids to rebuild his reputation after a wretched spell at Stamford Bridge. He earned plenty of plaudits for his fine work at Brighton and his easy-on-the-eye style of play could prove popular with FA bigwigs.
Lee Carsley
Lee Carsley is a manager on the rise after guiding England’s Under-21s to the European Under-21 Championships last summer while getting his crop playing an attractive brand of football. An in-house appointment could prove attractive to the FA after Southgate’s success.
Jurgen Klopp
Another German on the list is former Liverpool boss Jurgen Klopp. Despite publicly expressing his desire to take a break from football, the FA could come knocking on his door as they look for a new leader for the Three Lions, and they may be able to persuade him.
Mauricio Pochettino
How about a touch of South American flair? Mauricio Pochettino is a free agent after leaving Chelsea at the end of the 2023/24 campaign despite getting a tune out of their expensively assembled squad in the final months. Could the former Tottenham and PSG boss fancy it?
Frank Lampard
Former Chelsea, Everton and Derby boss Frank Lampard is thought to be in the running to replace Southgate. He’s without a job at the moment and was last seen on the touchline at Stamford Bridge as an interim boss at the Blues.
Thomas Tuchel
The German is another name on the list who has experience of English football after a rollercoaster ride at Chelsea. Thomas Tuchel is back in the running after leaving Bayern Munich on the back of failing to secure a trophy-laden campaign.
