Euro 2024 has launched into action… and we’re almost into the knockout stages.
Spain were the first to book their spot and have been joined by hosts Germany, Portugal, Italy and Switzerland so far.
The full list of fixtures will be confirmed in the next couple of days, with the top two from each group joined by the four best third-placed teams.
The qualification criteria for the teams finishing third in the groups is relatively simple. The team that bags the most points out of the six will go through as the highest-ranked lucky loser.

The second spot will go to the third-placed with the second most points, third to the third highest and fourth to the next. If they can’t be separated on points, it goes down to goal difference, goals scored, or wins.
In the unlikely scenario that the fourth-best team that placed third and the fifth-best are level on all those factors, it comes down to the better disciplinary record. Effectively the number of yellow and red cards they have received.

If they still can’t be split then the nations’ performance in qualifying will be the deciding factor.
