Bayer Leverkusen are looking to tick off the second leg of their historic treble bid when they face Atalanta in the Europa League final in Dublin this week.
Saturday’s 2-1 league defeat of Augsburg ensured Xabi Alonso’s side remain unbeaten in all competitions in 2023/24 – an incredible 51-game streak – and success in the Irish capital would ensure a second continental success in the club’s history.
Leverkusen have racked up an incredible 135 goals over the course of the campaign and their last-gasp heroics in previous rounds – including Jeremie Frimpong’s 89th-minute equaliser against West Ham in the quarter-finals – has been key to preserving their unblemished record.
Atalanta, who knocked out Liverpool en route to the final, have never won a major European trophy and will become the first Italian winners of the Europa League if they get the better of their German opposition.
The Serie A outfit were hoping to complete a cup double but suffered a 1-0 defeat to Juventus in last week’s Coppa Italia final.

Atalanta v Leverkusen prediction
Phil Thompson: Leverkusen warmed up for this with a final league win of the season against Augsburg last weekend, they have the German Cup final to come this weekend, and everything looks to be in their favour. I do think it will be a close one at the Aviva Stadium, but I see Xabi Alonso continuing that run, and I’m going for Leverkusen to win 2-1.
