Nigeria v Ivory Coast AFCON final date, kick-off time, team news and odds

Who will be AFCON champions?

AFCON Trophy

The AFCON final is getting closer and 24 teams are now down to just two as Nigeria take on hosts Ivory Coast for the title.

Both have overcome difficult tests en route to the final and were part of the same group earlier in the competition. The Super Eagles qualified for the knockout round in second place, while the Elephants narrowly made it through as one of the best third-placed sides after sacking their manager.

Several of Nigeria’s squad play their club football in England with Alex Iwobi, Calvin Bassey and Frank Onyeka all strutting their stuff in the Premier League. Perhaps the most famous is former Manchester City man Kelechi Iheanacho, who now plays for Championship high flyers Leicester City.

They are three-time winners of the competition and look like the strongest outfit on paper, but will be facing Ivory Coast, who have home advantage.

The hosts also have several players playing club football in Europe’s top-five leagues, with Brighton prospect Simon Adingra and former West Ham forward Sebastien Haller among their big-name stars.
