Manchester City are given a break from their faltering Premier League title charge to take part in the FIFA Club World Cup.
Pep Guardiola’s – fourth in the Premier League table after winning just one of their last six matches – have jetted out to Saudi Arabia in their bid to become world champions.
Despite the prestigious title on offer, the Club World Cup has been little more than a side quest for Champions League winners over the years, although the trophy has headed back to Europe in each of the last 10 years.
City swept past AFC Champions League winners Urawa Reds in the last four and will face Brazilian outfit Fluminense in the final after the Copa Libertadores holders got the better of African Champions League victors Al Ahly in the other semi-final tie.
It is the last iteration of the seven-team tournament before a major format overhaul that will see 32 sides battling it out for supremacy.
