The clock is ticking on the countdown to Euro 2024 and excitement levels are set to increase as UEFA bigwigs conduct the draw for the group stage of next summer’s tournament.
After a penalty shootout defeat to Italy in the Euro 2020 final, England fans will be hoping the Three Lions can go one better and they will be praying for a kind draw in Germany.
Scotland are also involved after an impressive qualification campaign, while Wales could be the third British nation taking part in the footie fiesta but the Dragons need to come through the play-offs next spring.

Euro 2024 draw date
The draw for the group stage of Euro 2024 is scheduled to take place on Saturday, December 2 at the Elbphilharmonie in Hamburg, Germany.

UEFA bigwigs are set to conduct the Euro 2024 draw from 5pm. There’ll, no doubt, be plenty of filler before they actually get round to picking the balls.

Pot 1: Portugal, France, Spain, Belgium, England
Pot 2: Hungary, Turkey, Romania, Denmark, Albania, Austria
Pot 3: Netherlands, Scotland, Croatia, Slovenia, Slovakia, Czechia
Pot 4: Italy, Serbia, Switzerland, Play-off winner A, Play-off winner B, Play-off winner C
Euro 2024 draw format
The 23 teams – minus Germany, we’ll get to that in a bit – are drawn into six groups of four – but in classic UEFA fashion, it is far from a simple procedure. Sigh.
As well as pots 1-4, there are pots labelled A-F to determine a country’s position in each group. Pot 1 only contains seven balls instead of eight and Pot A three instead of four because Germany are assigned A1 as hosts.
Still with me? Right, the draw begins with teams being picked from Pot 1 and they are assigned to groups in alphabetical order. For example, if England are the first team to be pulled from Pot 1 then they will be assigned to Group B and a ball will be plucked from Pot B to determine their place.
That continues through to Pot 2 then Pot 3 and concludes with Pot 4.
