Pep Guardiola loves to keep us guessing with his Manchester City team selections, and one man hoping he’ll spin the selection wonder wheel is England star Jack Grealish.
The ex-Aston Villa man has a battle on to get in the starting XI with summer signing Jeremy Doku shining since his move from Rennes.
The Belgium winger set a new record against Bournemouth earlier this month as City demolished the Cherries 6-1 – netting one and assisting four to become the youngest ever player to contribute five goal involvements in a Premier League match.
And in an EXCLUSIVE column for Paddy Power News, former City defender Bacary Sagna has admitted he can’t see Grealish getting his place back any time soon.
BACARY SAGNA: Jeremy Doku is electric and the type of player who can create something from nothing.
He’s so good in one v one situations and as a defender, it must be so difficult to face him.
He’s very powerful and unpredictable and the way he plays, he’s so direct.
He’s one of the most influential players for Manchester City today and he deserves to start ahead of Jack Grealish.
There’s no doubt about Grealish’s quality. He’s still one of the best players in England but he needs to work and be patient.
The season is long and that’s why Man City are where they are.
Pep Guardiola is able to bring competition between the players which is good for Grealish, but it won’t be easy for him to get back into the team because Doku is amazing.
He creates lots of chances and gets assists for everyone and defenders will know more about him now so centre-backs will know they have to help the right back more.
He’s drawing attention to him which will leave more space for players like Erling Haaland and the midfielders to run into.
