Next Man City manager odds: Who will succeed Pep Guardiola at the Etihad?

Pep Guardiola has guided Manchester City to six titles since 2017, however, with City being hit by over 100 Financial Fair Play breaches by the Premier League, Guardiola’s future at the Etihad seems a little unclear.

We know Guardiola will never be sacked by City but he has threatened to walk away if the club are found guilty over breaking FFP, so let’s have a look at some of the likely Next Man City Manager contenders, according to Paddy’s trusty traders.

Roberto De Zerbi

Roberto De Zerbi has carried on Graham Potter’s solid work at Brighton and the Seagulls secured European football. The Italian isn’t afraid to make tough decisions with De Zerbi selling Leandro Trossard and his stock is high after shining on the south coast.

Vincent Kompany

Vincent Kompany is a City hero and the former defender already has a statue outside the Etihad but is he the right man to replace Guardiola? He had a spell in charge of Anderlecht before taking over at Burnley and he’s transformed the Championship outfit into a Premier League side no less.

They try to play attractive football but there’s a question over whether Kompany’s men will still be in the Premier League next season. Whether he’s quite ready to be in the City dugout remains to be seen but it looks likely in the future.

Xabi Alonso

Former Liverpool midfielder Xabi Alonso has done a brilliant job at Bayer Leverkusen and they look to battle with Bayern Munich for the Bundesliga title this season.

Alonso’s stock is high and he could be a future City boss for sure.

Zinedine Zidane

Zinedine Zidane couldn’t stop winning trophies at Real Madrid but would that translate to the Premier League? He won the Champions League three times with Real and we all know that’s City’s target these days.

Mikel Arteta

Guardiola’s former assistant Mikel Arteta isn’t in City’s good books at the moment after almost beating his old side to the Premier League title with Arsenal.

Arteta has turned the Gunners around and he’s built a team who are genuine title contenders. The Spaniard seems to be the closest out there to Guardiola so could City line him up as the replacement?

Julian Nagelsmann

Julian Nagelsmann is just 35 years old and it seems inevitable that he’ll manage in the Premier League one day.

The German impressed at RB Leipzig before being snapped up by Bayern Munich in 2021. He got sacked in bizarre circumstances this season and replaced by Thomas Tuchel before taking the Germany national men’s team job.

Nagelsmann’s sides play expansive and entertaining football and the German is used to managing pressure at a big club.
