Former Everton, Manchester United, Spurs, Fulham and Newcastle striker Louis Saha doesn’t think anyone can hold a candle to Tottenham in the Premier League right now. Ange Postecoglou’s men remain unbeaten and headed into Saturday’s games five points clear at the top of the table following a dramatic 2-1 win over Crystal Palace on Friday night.
While everything’s rosy in the Spurs garden at the moment, the spectre of Manchester City will loom large in any potential title race, just like it did for their rivals Arsenal last season. And Saha told Paddy Power News that, while Tottenham are red-hot at the moment, he still expects City to overtake them and add to their bulging trophy cabinet come May.
Spurs the best team in the Premier League at the moment
Tottenham have made a great start, but we’ve seen this with previous Tottenham teams over the years and it also happened to Arsenal last year.
There’s a different type of hurdle that these teams need to get through and it’s the toughest hurdle of all. Any team can start very well but sustaining it and getting over the finish line is the hard part.
From what I’ve seen from the Tottenham managers and the players so far, it seems like they have an energy that’s going to be really hard to challenge.
Spurs are a level above the rest of the League at the moment
That comes from a few key players. I still doubt that they’ll come close to Manchester City’s strength, experience and ability to win really scrappy games.
The manager gives the players confidence, especially the midfielders – it’s amazing how they dominate almost every team they come up against. I don’t know whether they can do what Arsenal failed to do last year and really grind it out.

Fans have lost all trust in the officials
There is definitely an inconsistency around the handball rule and that’s why people are getting frustrated. The referees are not transparent and they’re also not confident. They don’t give any confidence to the fans watching either.
They have to work harder to remove the conspiracy theories that are emerging in fanbases. There are lots of inconsistencies that need to be erased and we can’t leave the interpretation of the rule to one person in a VAR room.
VAR should be providing guarantees, but they’re not because the referee in the middle decides when they want to blow the whistle. They have to either give all the power to the VAR, or none of it.
For me, the rules have to be determined by technology and the controversy at the moment is because the ref in the game is making their own decision. Everyone can see what’s going on, but the referees aren’t being held accountable for gross errors.
Fans are trying to claim conspiracy and while the mistakes are human errors, people will always feel that because fans need to trust the officials, but at this moment in time, there is no trust.
