Arsenal make their long-awaited return to the Champions League after a six-season absence… but who could the Gunners face in the group stage?

Mikel Arteta and co will discover their fate when UEFA bigwigs pluck the balls from the transparent bowls at 5pm on Thursday, August 31 at the Grimaldi Forum in Monaco.

Despite spending a number of seasons languishing in the Europa League – and even a spell missing out on continental competitions altogether – Arsenal have been handed a plum spot in Pot 2 so they will avoid being placed in the same group as a number of mahoosive sides.

The latest Champions League odds are on the Paddy Power website and Paddy Power app, otherwise everything Arsenal fans need to know about their prospects in the group-stage draw can be found below.

Champions League pots

Pot 1: Man City, Sevilla, FC Barcelona, Napoli, Bayern Munich, Paris Saint-Germain, Benfica, Feyenoord

Pot 2: Real Madrid, Man Utd, Inter Milan, Borussia Dortmund, Atletico Madrid, RB Leipzig, Porto, Arsenal

Pot 3: Shakhtar Donetsk, Red Bull Salzburg, AC Milan, Braga, PSV Eindhoven, Lazio, Red Star Belgrade, FC Copenhagen

Pot 4: Youngs Boys, Newcastle United, Union Berlin, Lens, Real Sociedad, Celtic, Galatasaray, Antwerp

Who could Arsenal face in the Champions League group stage?

Arsenal cannot face a fellow Premier League side in the Champions League group stage so a potential meeting with Manchester City, Manchester United or Newcastle United is off the table until later in the competition.

There are seven possible sides the Gunners could face from Pot 1 and you would imagine they would prefer to be paired with the likes of Benfica or Feyenoord as opposed to sides such as Barcelona or Bayern Munich.

Mikel Arteta’s side could be drawn alongside any of the eight teams in Pot 3 while Newcastle’s presence in Pot 4 means there are seven potential opponents from there.
