Wembley has practically become Manchester City’s second home and Pep Guardiola’s trophy collectors will be heading back to England’s national stadium at the start of next season.
The Community Shield – the first trophy of the campaign or a glorified friendly, depending on who you support – sees the Premier League champions take on the FA Cup winners.
City secured both trophies which causes a bit of a problem as they can’t exactly play themselves…
So who will Pep’s lads face in the curtain raiser later this summer?
Well, it will be another meeting between master and apprentice as Mikel Arteta’s Arsenal are City’s opponents in the 2023 Community Shield.
The one-off match has not been kind to City in recent years as they have lost the last two editions, with their most recent success coming in 2019 after penalties, while Arsenal lifted the trophy the following year after a shootout success.
When is the 2023 Community Shield?
While the FA have yet to confirm the date and kick-off time for the Community Shield, Manchester City and Arsenal are likely to face off at Wembley on Saturday, August 5 or Sunday, August 6.
That is because the 2023/24 Premier League season is scheduled to get underway the following weekend.
