Arteta: Our focus is now on 2-2 draw with Southampton

It was fun while it lasted

Arsenal boss Mikel Arteta has urged his players to put Sunday’s result at the London Stadium behind them and focus on their upcoming 2-2 draw with Southampton instead.

The Gunners maintained their recent record of throwing away seemingly unassailable two-goal leads with a 2-2 draw against a struggling West Ham side.

Now Arteta wants his team to switch their attention to Friday’s clash with bottom side Southampton as the club remains on course to bottle the Premier League title.

‘We can’t look too far ahead. We must take it one 2-2 draw at a time’, the Spaniard told Paddy Power News.

‘I’ve told the players to blitz Southampton in the opening exchanges and race into an early 2-0 lead’.

‘Ideally, we’d miss a glorious chance to put the game to bed with a third goal. A missed penalty would be perfect’.

‘Then we’ll gift Southampton a couple of late goals with some sh*te defending and draw the game 2-2’.

‘If we’re going to stand any chance of gifting this title to City, then we’ll have keep throwing points away from comfortable winning positions.

Pressed on why Arsenal seem hellbent on throwing away a first Premier League title in 18-years, the 41-year-old said:

‘Purely for the meltdowns we’d witness on AFTV and Piers Morgan’s Twitter feed. That would be some craic’.

Meanwhile, Manchester City boss Pep Guardiola has revealed that he created Mikel Arteta after growing wearisome of his rivalry with Liverpool’s Jurgen Klopp.

‘Jurgen gets 97 points, so I get 98 points. Jurgen gets 92 points, so I get 93 points. Blah, blah, blah’, yawned the former Barcelona boss.

‘I needed a fresh challenge. I figure the only person able to compete with me would be me. No?’

‘The cloning process, it takes too long. So, I decide to mould Mikel into a mini-Pep instead’.

‘He is like Pep in every single way – except one. He has an amazing head of hair’.

‘I reckon it gets lowered onto his head every morning like Darth Vader’s helmet’.
