Next Man City manager odds: Who could replace Pep Guardiola at the Etihad?

Pep Guardiola has guided Manchester City to four Premier League titles since 2017, with the Spaniard hoping to beat Arsenal to a fifth later this year.

However, with City being hit by over 100 Financial Fair Play breaches by the Premier League, Guardiola’s future at the Etihad seems a little unclear.

We know Guardiola will never be sacked by City but he has threatened to walk away if the club are found guilty over breaking FFP, so let’s have a look at some of the likely Next Man City Manager contenders.

Mauricio Pochettino

Ex-Tottenham boss Mauricio Pochettino is the favourite to take over from Guardiola at City if the Spaniard walks.

Pochettino’s style of play is easy on the eye and not to dissimilar to Guardiola’s and the Argentine has experience of managing big-ego players.

He knows the Premier League but would his success at Spurs translate to the big-spending City?

Vincent Kompany

Vincent Kompany is a City hero and the former defender already has a statue outside the Etihad but is he the right man to replace Guardiola?

He had a spell in charge of Anderlecht before taking over at Burnley and he’s transformed the Championship outfit.

They’re playing attractive football and Kompany’s men are well clear at the top of the table.

Whether he’s quite ready to be in the City dugout remains to be seen but it looks likely in the future.

Zinedine Zidane

Zinedine Zidane couldn’t stop winning trophies at Real Madrid but would that translate to the Premier League?

He won the Champions League three times with Real and we all know how much City want that trophy…

Julian Nagelsmann

Julian Nagelsmann is just 35 years old and it seems inevitable that he’ll manage in the Premier League one day.

The German impressed at RB Leipzig before being snapped up by Bayern Munich in 2021. They’ll likely win the Bundesliga once again this season and they’ve got a shot of winning the Champions League too.

Nagelsmann’s sides play expansive and entertaining football and the German is used to managing pressure at a big club.

Mikel Arteta

Guardiola’s former assistant Mikel Arteta isn’t in City’s good books at the moment as he looks to beat his old side to the Premier League title with Arsenal.

Arteta has turned the Gunners around and he’s built a team who are genuine title contenders.

The Spaniard seems to be the closest out there to Guardiola so could City line him up as the replacement?

Thomas Tuchel

Chelsea sacked Thomas Tuchel for Graham Potter but the German had success in west London, guiding the Blues to the Champions League, the UEFA Super Cup and the FIFA Club World Cup.

It remains to be seen whether Tuchel is looking for another Premier League job but it’d be hard to turn down City if the call came.

Roberto De Zerbi

Roberto De Zerbi has carried on Potter’s solid work at Brighton and the Seagulls are in with a shout of finishing in the top seven in the Premier League.

The Italian isn’t afraid to make tough decisions with De Zerbi selling Leandro Trossard in January and his stock will be high if Brighton have a strong finish to the season.
