Klopp likes to take his future into his own hands and effectively resigned from his last two roles at Borussia Dortmund and Mainz. While it seems unlikely he will be given the sack by the Kop board, Klopp is having a tough 2022/23 season.

Stop the press! Pep could be in pole position to replace Jurgen Klopp at Liverpool. Oh, not that Pep. Pep Lijnders. Klopp’s assistant at Anfield has been high on this list of replacements for a long time.

Thomas Tuchel

Thomas Tuchel likes following in Jurgen Klopp’s footsteps and he’s a man with serious Champions League pedigree as well. He got the heave-ho at Chelsea but has knowledge of the Premier League too. He could be the shrewdies’ choice.

Roberto De Zerbi

Roberto De Zerbi has impressed since taking over from Graham Potter at Brighton and they’re in with a serious chance of finishing in the top seven.

If they manage to finish above Liverpool could the Reds make a move for the Italian?

Julian Nagelsmann

Your trendy German manager not doing the business anymore? Call for the next cab off the rank, Bayern Munich boss Julian Nagelsmann. The 35-year-old has impressed at Bayern and he could be tempted by the Premier League.

Steven Gerrard

Liverpool legend Steven Gerrard pulled up trees north of the border at Rangers but he found it tougher going at Aston Villa before he was sacked. He employs a vastly different style to Klopp but he would clearly be a popular appointment with the Kop faithful.

Ange Postecoglou

Could Liverpool be in line for some Ange management? Celtic boss Ange Postecoglou has been making moves in the market and has done a great job at Celtic, helping the Bhoys to displace Rangers at the top of the tree in Scotland.

Xabi Alonso

Another former Liverpool midfield maestro, Xabi Alonso, is cutting his teeth with Bayer Leverkusen in Germany. No doubt, taking the Liverpool job would be a big step up, though.

Diego Simeone

Atletico Madrid boss Diego Simeone seems to feature on every next manager list and it’s for good reason. He’s done a great job in the Spanish capital but has been with Atleti for a long, long time. The football might not be up to Klopp’s standards but the touchline antics might be even more enjoyable.

Luis Enrique

Former Barcelona manager Luis Enrique‘s time as Spanish manager came to a close thanks to a penalty shootout loss to Morocco in the Last 16. Lionel Messi described him as one of the two best managers he ever played under, Pep Guardiola being the other, he’s surely looking to get back into management. Known for his fast pressing and counting-attacking style of play he’d certainly be a popular managerial signing around Anfield.

Rafa Benitez

Still adored in the red half of Merseyside, Rafa Benitez is a free agent after getting hounded out at Everton. Benitez won four trophies, including that famous Champions League in Istanbul in 2005, during his six-year stay at Liverpool between 2004 and 2010.
