A terrible run of results has seen Patrick Vieira axed by Crystal Palace bigwigs on St Paddy’s Day of all days!
The Eagles are sinking into relegation danger after a run of 13 games without a win that has cost the former Arsenal midfielder his job in the Selhurst Park dugout.
It leaves Palace chiefs looking for a new manager ahead of the relegation run-in, although the upcoming international break gives them a chance to find the right man.
Roy Hodgson is reportedly being considered for a shock return to Selhurst Park. The veteran tactician stabilised the Eagles in the Premier League during a four-year spell at the club before announcing his retirement at the end of the 2020/21 campaign.
Hodgson answered an SOS from Watford last season but couldn’t save the Hornets from relegation.
Could he steer the Eagles towards Premier League survival in a second stint?
Paddy McCarthy
U21s head coach Paddy McCarthy has been installed in the dugout for Sunday’s Premier League trip to Arsenal and could have a chance to land the big job for the rest of the season.
The former defender spent the majority of his playing career on the club’s books and could prove a popular appointment if he bags all three points at the Emirates Stadium.
Marcelo Bielsa
He turned Everton down when the Toffees came calling, but the former Leeds boss could get Crystal Palace back as an attacking unit.
Marcelo Bielsa has been out of work since February 2022 and would be immediately available if he fancies getting involved without a pre-season to get his methods across.
Ralph Hasenhuttl
Could the Eagles swoop for free agent Ralph Hasenhuttl?
The former Southampton boss earned plaudits for his work on the south coast, but his four-year spell at St Mary’s ended in miserable fashion with the Saints in the relegation zone last November.
Whether he fancies the possibility of having two Premier League relegations in the same season on his CV is questionable.
Jesse Marsch
You’d expect that the former Leeds United coach would like another crack at the Premier League. Things didn’t exactly get off to a good start at Leeds when he criticised Marcelo Bielsa on taking the reigns at Elland Road but he’ll surely have learned from his mistake on that one.
Crystal Palace need goals and they need them quickly and his stats at Leeds read as 1.40 goals scored per games and at RB Leipzig his team scored 2.04 goals per game. Palace probably have the best defence of the Bottom 10 Premier League teams so he might be exactly what they need in their search for goals.
Rafa Benitez
Rafa Benitez could fancy a return to management with a fifth Premier League club. He was making flirty-eyes at West Ham for a while there but they look like they’re sticking with David Moyes.
The former Liverpool, Chelsea and Newcastle boss has been out of work since being axed by Everton in January 2022.
Is Benitez the man to get the goal-shy Eagles firing?
Nuno Espirito Santo
The first name on the list that is currently in management.
Former Wolves boss Nuno Espirito Santo took the reins at Al-Ittihad at the start of the season, but the chance to salvage his reputation in the Premier League after a nightmare spell at Tottenham could appeal.
