Liverpool manager Jurgen Klopp has urged fans to repeat their fireworks shenanigans outside the Madrid hotel the Reds will be staying in next month.
The 55-year-old boss made the unusual request after witnessing his side’s 5-2 dismantling at the hands of a sleep-deprived Real Madrid during their Champions League last-16 tie.
Spanish giants Madrid set up residence at Innside Hotel but had their sleep disturbed in the early hours by mischievous Liverpool supporters who set off fireworks outside the building.
Real stars including Ballon d’Or winner Karim Benzema arrived at Anfield looking worse for wear and were caught napping as the hosts raced into a two-goal lead inside 15 minutes.
However, Carlo Ancelotti’s side roared back to win 5-2 and seemingly put to bed Liverpool’s Champions League aspirations.
Now Klopp wants his own players subjected to a 2am fireworks display the night before the return leg at the Santiago Bernabéu.
“Who knew that a long sleepless night filled with loud bangs and blinding lights would be the ideal preparation for a Champions League knockout game?” a grinning Klopp told Paddy Power News.
“That’s why I’m calling on our fans to do the same to us the night before the game and maybe, we can turn this thing around, no?
“I want to see hundreds of Reds fans help illuminate the night sky and hear the crackles and deafening bangs.
“I want to see an angry James Milner in his dressing gown in the hotel car park at 2am and an exhausted Mo Salah sobbing into his cereal at breakfast.
“Then I’ll know we stand a chance of being knocked out in the quarter-finals instead.”
Meanwhile, Ancelotti was full of praise for his players after Real became the first team to score five goals at Anfield in a European game.
“Imagine if we’d had a good night’s kip? We might have scored 10,” mumbled the Italian while hoisting his impressive left eyebrow.
“It’s hard to decide what was the bigger waste of money: the fireworks the Liverpool fans let off outside the hotel, or Cody Gakpo?”
