The fourth round of the Carabao Cup concludes with a blockbuster tie at the Etihad Stadium.
Manchester City will need to dump out the reigning Carabao Cup holders if they’re to keep alive their dream of regaining the trophy as the domestic season resumes following the World Cup.
The Sky Blues enjoyed a stranglehold of the competition between 2018 and 2021 but crashed out at this stage of last season’s tournament.
NEW TO PADDY POWER NEWS?
Liverpool beat Chelsea on penalties in the final – a feat that would be repeated in the subsequent FA Cup final – but the Reds’ current campaign is not going to plan.
Jurgen Klopp’s team looked a shadow of its former self before the World Cup and the German tactician will be hoping the break has reinvigorated his players.

Man City v Liverpool predicted lineups
Pep Guardiola is no stranger to rotating his squad in the Carabao Cup and is unlikely to call on players that went deep into the World Cup. Kevin De Bruyne and Ilkay Gundogan figured in the 2-0 friendly win over Girona on Saturday, while Rodri and Aymeric Laporte are likely to step into the XI.
Liverpool will be without Ibrahima Konate, who featured in the World Cup final last Sunday. A number of players that featured at Qatar 2022 including Alisson, Jordan Henderson and Virgil van Dijk are unlikely to be risked.
Man City predicted lineup: Ortega; Lewis, Akanji, Laporte, Gomez; Rodri, Gundogan, De Bruyne; Mahrez, Palmer, Haaland
Liverpool predicted lineup: Kelleher; Alexander-Arnold, Matip, Gomez, Robertson; Bajcetic, Thiago, Elliott; Salah, Firmino, Nunez.

Man City v Liverpool prediction
Shane O’Brien: Although it is undoubtedly a big game, you get the impression that City and Liverpool will place far more emphasis on the league fixtures that come after Christmas as City attempt to play catch-up with Arsenal and Liverpool attempt to get back into the race for the Champions League places. It wouldn’t be too surprising, therefore, if the five Liverpool players and 10 City players that exited the World Cup at the quarter-final stage did not feature on Thursday night to give them more time to recover for the festive fixtures.
Thursday’s game then comes down to a battle of squad depth and it is one that City win just about and that could mirror the result. They should have just about enough to gain some revenge for October’s defeat in Anfield.
