Southgate begs Pogba’s witch doctor to put curse on Mbappe

Worth a try

England boss Gareth Southgate is begging Paul Pogba’s witch doctor to put a curse on in-form France forward Kylian Mbappe ahead of the Three Lions’ World Cup quarter-final clash with the reigning champions.

Reports claim that ex-Manchester United ace Pogba once acquired the services of a witch doctor, identified as Birame D, to injure his international teammate Mbappe before a Champions League clash with Paris Saint-Germain.

With Mbappe in scintillating form heading into Saturday’s knockout game, Southgate is resorting to magic in a bid to stop the 23-year-old who is the tournament’s leading scorer with 5 goals.

‘I’m not proud of myself’, Southgate told Paddy Power News.

‘But it was either a magic spell or rely on the pace of John Stones and Harry Maguire’.

‘I haven’t had a great deal of experience with the dark arts. When I was 8 years old I got a Paul Daniels magic set for Christmas’.

‘But nearly all those tricks involved using a little piece of rope. There was nothing in that box to do with placing a curse on an international footballer. Which was a shame really’.

When asked if England had a Plan B in the event the witch doctor had no real magical powers, the 52-year-old said:

‘Kyle Walker’s currently had a third lung implanted and should have recovered from the surgery in time for kick-off’.

‘But failing that, we’ll probably get Jack Grealish to say what a fantastic player Mbappe is on live TV’.

‘Like a reverse-Almirón kind of thing’.

Meanwhile, Birame D has admitted he was behind some other spells and curses placed on footballers and managers around the world.

‘When Harry Kane couldn’t score in August? Yes, that was me’.

‘Chelsea number nines being big money flops? Some of my best work’.

However, when asked if he was responsible for the curse placed upon Manchester United since Sir Alex Ferguson’s retirement, he said:

‘No way! That’s above my pay grade. That’s some Harry Potter sh*t right there’.
