Argentina v Saudi Arabia: In play Paddy punters pull off 150/1 World Cup shock

It's not just Lionel Messi and co who've been left reeling.

We’re only on day three of the 2022 World Cup but surely we’ll not see a bigger shock than Saudi Arabia coming back from a goal down to beat Argentina.

NEW TO PADDY POWER NEWS?

The Green Falcons found themselves trailing 1-0 at the half-way stage thanks to a Lionel Messi penalty, but Argentina also had three goals ruled out in the first 45 and it looked like their domination was only going to continue.

But, literally against all odds, the Saudis shocked their more-fancied opponents to roar back and win 2-1 in absolutely sensational style.

While Paddy and the rest of the lads in the penthouse trading suite at Power Tower didn’t see it coming, a smattering of wily punters did and four of them landed odds as big as 150/1 in play to take advantage of the surprise with another hauling in a 100/1 shot at half time.

We also took 560 bets on Saudi Arabia to win pre match with some punters getting as big as 28/1 and 29 soccer soothsayers backed the 1-2 score line at 66/1 with, unsurprisingly, over half of those being cashed out as the game went on.

So while it was a result for the ages that set the competition alight, Saudi Arabia’s famous win over Argentina will go down in folklore for a small selection of Paddy’s punters. Well played, well played.
