You can officially start getting excited about the Champions League as the draw for the last 16 takes place today.

Chelsea, Liverpool, Manchester City and Tottenham have all punched their tickets to the knockout stage but will avoid each other for the time being as clubs from the same country cannot face each other just yet.

NEW TO PADDY POWER NEWS?

UEFA have said they’ll start the draw at 11am but there’ll no doubt be plenty of fluff and backslapping before the teams are pulled out of the hat.

You can find the latest Champions League odds on the Paddy Power website and Paddy Power app, otherwise keep on reading for our live coverage of this morning’s draw…

11:21: Champions League draw in full

RB Leipzig v Man City
Club Brugge v Benfica
Liverpool v Real Madrid
AC Milan v Tottenham
Eintracht Frankfurt v Napoli
Borussia Dortmund v Chelsea
Inter Milan v Porto
Paris Saint-Germain v Bayern Munich

11:19: The rest of the Premier League teams are drawn…

Tottenham are paired with AC Milan and Chelsea must overcome Borussia Dortmund to reach the last eight.

It’s a mixed bag for the Premier League teams. Manchester City will be quite pleased with their pairing, Liverpool’s challenging season gets tougher as they’ll have been desperate to avoid the defending champions, while Spurs and Chelsea have a bit of work to do with tricky ties.

The draw concludes with an absolute banger of a tie as PSG meet Bayern Munich. Well, that was done efficiently and quickly. A big thumbs up to UEFA!

11:16: The next balls are out…

Club Brugge will face Benfica before Liverpool are plucked out of the pot… and they are handed a repeat of last year’s final. A penny for Jurgen’s thoughts.

11:13: The draw is underway…

The balls are given a little spin in the pot – where they make a delightful noise – and Hamit picks the first one out. It’s RB Leipzig… and they get Manchester City!

11:10: Who’s this?

The Champions League final will take place in Istanbul so former Turkey international Hamit Altintop has turned up to help out with the draw. He started his career at the wonderfully named Wattenscheid 09.

Tobias Hedtstuck, UEFA’s head of club competitions and calendar, is now explaining how the draw will be conducted. I’ll be honest, I stopped listening a bit as I’d already Googled all that.

11:05: We’re underway!

The good news is there’s no studio filler from the BT Sport gang. The bad news is we’ve just had to sit through an incredibly long montage of footage showing the 16 teams that are involved in this morning’s draw.

The host describes the clip as ‘fantastic’ which is a bit OTT before welcoming the draw chief Giorgio Marchetti to explain the T&Cs. Fun.

11:00: Who can Tottenham draw?

Tottenham are seeded for the Champions League last-16 draw after topping Group D in dramatic fashion. They will be paired with an unseeded team excluding Eintracht Frankfurt (who were in the same group) and Liverpool (because they’re from the same country).

Tottenham can draw: AC Milan, Borussia Dortmund, Club Brugge, Inter Milan, Paris Saint-Germain or RB Leipzig

10:55: Who can Man City draw?

Man City are seeded for the Champions League last-16 draw because they finished top of Group G. They will be paired with an unseeded team excluding Borussia Dortmund (who were in the same group) and Liverpool (because they’re from the same country).

Man City can draw: AC Milan, Club Brugge, Eintracht Frankfurt, Inter Milan, Paris Saint-Germain or RB Leipzig

10:50: Who can Liverpool draw?

Liverpool are unseeded for the Champions League last-16 draw because they finished second in Group A. There are only a handful of clubs they can face because they cannot be paired with Napoli, Chelsea, Manchester City and Tottenham.

Liverpool can draw: Bayern Munich, Benfica, Porto or Real Madrid

10:45: Who can Chelsea draw?

Chelsea are seeded for the Champions League last-16 draw because they finished top of Group E. They will be paired with an unseeded team excluding AC Milan (who were in the same group) and Liverpool (because they’re from the same country).

Chelsea can draw: Borussia Dortmund, Club Brugge, Eintracht Frankfurt, Inter Milan, Paris Saint-Germain or RB Leipzig

10:30: Champions League last-16 draw details

The eight group winners are seeded and will be paired with the eight group runners-up. A team cannot, however, be drawn against another team from the same country or same group.

Seeded: Napoli, Porto, Bayern Munich, Tottenham, Chelsea, Manchester City, Manchester City, Real Madrid, Benfica
Unseeded: Liverpool, Club Brugge, Inter Milan, Eintracht Frankfurt, AC Milan, RB Leipzig, Borussia Dortmund, Paris Saint-Germain

The Champions League last 16 first-leg matches are set to be played on February 14, 15, 21 and 22 in 2023. The seconds legs have been pencilled in the calendar for March 7, 8, 14 and 15 in 2023.

10:15: Hello!

Alright! Mondays are a relentless grind so it’s fitting that UEFA bigwigs have picked today to conduct one of their never-ending draws. How long will it go on for? Who knows but who really cares because it’s all part of the fun and games.

The draw is scheduled to get underway at 11am and we’re anticipating plenty of mouth-watering ties despite the likes of Atletico Madrid and Barcelona crashing out already.

Real Madrid are the defending champions after beating Liverpool in last season’s final and the two teams could meet in the last 16 as Jurgen Klopp’s Reds failed to top their group.

Chelsea, Manchester City and Tottenham will probably be dreaming that the UEFA gods pair them with minnows Club Brugge but the plucky Belgians could be this term’s dark horses after progressing from a tricky group.
