England head to Qatar bidding to end more than half a century of hurt.
Despite a wretched run of results in this calendar year that led to relegation from the top tier of the UEFA Nations League, the Three Lions are among the favourites in Paddy Power’s World Cup outright betting.
Gareth Southgate’s side have plenty of tournament experience having reached the World Cup semi-finals in Russia in 2018 and the final of Euro 2020 last year.
But it’s been such a long time since the Three Lions were world champions they’ve changed the trophy since!
Bobby Moore lifted the Jules Rimet Trophy – since gifted permanently to Brazil after their third triumph – in 1966 after England beat West Germany by four goals to two after extra time in the World Cup final at Wembley.
Geoff Hurst was the hat-trick hero on that day 56 years ago and Harry Kane will no doubt be hoping to emulate the great man by firing England to the World Cup Trophy in Qatar.
Kane, who heads our World Cup Golden Boot odds, is also bidding to become the country’s record goalscorer as he needs just three goals to surpass Wayne Rooney’s total.
The Three Lions kick off their World Cup campaign against Iran on Monday, November 21 at 1pm before facing USA and Wales in their other Group B fixtures.
