The Carabao Cup is set to fizz into life as the Premier League clubs – minus the big boys competing in Europe – prepare to enter the tournament.

Yes, that’s right, 13 top-flight teams including Aston Villa, Leicester and Newcastle will join the 37 EFL sides left standing in the hat for the second-round draw.

The clubs won’t have too far to travel for their fixtures as the competition remains regionalised until round three when the likes of reigning champions Liverpool and Premier League kings Manchester City join the fun.

The draw for the second round of the Carabao Cup 2022/23 will be conducted by Clinton Morrison and Michael Gray following the conclusion of Sheffield Wednesday v Sunderland on Wednesday, August 10.

The first-round tie at Hillsborough – which will be televised live on Sky Sports Main Event and Sky Sports Football – is scheduled to kick-off at 19:45 so the balls should start coming out of the hat from 21:30 at the earliest.

The second-round fixtures are slated to take place in the week commencing Monday, August 22.
