Wembley is set to stage the richest game in football as Huddersfield take on Nottingham Forest for a place in the Premier League.
After a marathon 48-game campaign, it all comes down to one last push in the Championship play-off final as the last remaining spot in next season’s top flight is filled.
WELCOME TO PADDY POWER NEWS!
Huddersfield have recent experience of winning promotion to the Premier League via the play-offs after beating Reading in a penalty shoot-out in 2017, while it’s a first trip to Wembley since 1992 for Nottingham Forest as they embark on their maiden play-off final.
You’ll find all the key details about the 2022 Championship play-off final including the date, kick-off time and Paddy Power’s odds below.
When is the Championship play-off final?
The 2022 Championship play-off final between Huddersfield and Nottingham Forest kicks off at 4.30pm on Sunday, May 29. The match will go to extra time if the teams cannot be separated after 90 minutes and penalties if there isn’t a winner in the additional half hour.
Championship play-off final odds
Nottingham Forest are the odds-on favourites with Paddy Power to be promoted to the Premier League. The Tricky Trees were bottom of the Championship table when Steve Cooper replaced Chris Hughton as manager last September but the former Swansea boss sparked a dramatic revival as they ended the regular season in fourth. Brice Samba was their hero in the play-off semi-finals as success in a penalty shootout at the City Ground booked their trip to Wembley.
Despite finishing best of the rest behind champions Fulham and Bournemouth, Huddersfield are the outsiders with Paddy Power to be promoted to the Premier League. Head coach Carlos Corberan has won plenty of plaudits for transforming the Terriers, who were tipped by some pundits as relegation fodder at the start of the campaign. A late Jordan Rhodes winner in the second leg of their semi-final tie with Luton saw them reach the final 2-1 on aggregate.
Championship play-off final tips
Our EFL tipster Colin Harvey has run the rule over the fixture and has worked out a four-fold Bet Builder that clocks in at a cool 27/1. He’s backing Huddersfield to Win but fancies there to be Over 2.5 Goals as these two regularly find the back of the net and both have conceded around one-per-game this season.
