Revealed: What really happened in Erik Ten Hag’s Man United job interview

Ten Hag in?

Paddy Power News has managed to get hold of documents containing questions Manchester United chiefs asked Erik ten Hag at his interview for the Old Trafford managers job earlier this week.

The Dutch tactician and current Ajax boss, is the red hot favourite to take over from interim coach Ralph Rangnick in the summer and United have brought him in for an initial appraisal during the international break.

NEW TO PADDY POWER NEWS?

WELL, HOW DOES £/€20 AFTER SIGNING UP SOUND?

The 52-year-old was given a tough baptism with one of the questions asking him to explain why United should put their trust in a manager who was prepared to sell Donny van der Beek to them?

Another question that stood out immediately was how he would consider the best way to blow 200 million quid on sub-standard players that would see United fall further behind Manchester City and Liverpool both at home and in Europe?

Ten Hag was also asked how he would handle being constantly linked with big-name signings such as Declan Rice and Harry Kane over the summer, only to end up having to go back to his current employer to try to bring in a couple of youngsters from the reserves to bolster his squad ahead of an assault on the Conference League.

The Dutchman has a reputation in the media for being a tad boring and the Old Trafford hierarchy, obsessed at the moment by their social media presence, are thought to be looking for a more flamboyant figure who is the polar opposite of Ralph “The Accountant” Rangnick and former United boss and fellow countryman Louis van Gaal. They wondered how ten Hag would address this?

Ten Hag stole a march here, with an unnamed source claiming he rolled into Carrington wearing a Stone Roses t-shirt, Kangol bucket hat and flared jeans. A member of the ground staff also told us that the Dutchman kept repeating “Nice one” during a tour of the facilities.

Entrance to Old Trafford, Manchester United

A close friend explained that Ten Hag is so determined to land the gig at Old Trafford, he’s working around the clock to become more Mancunian than anyone born and bred in the city.

He’s understood to have been gorging on box sets of Coronation Street and has already developed a taste for barm cakes and Boddingtons.

Paddy Power News also understands that former England boss and United Assistant Manager Steve McClaren is helping the Dutchman out with his English/ Mancunian, as a return favour for Ten Hag helping Macca perfect that ridiculous Anglo/Dutch lingo he acquired during his time at FC Twente.
