Deadline Day: Lampard makes desperate bid to sign Mason Mount before transfer window closes

With Frank Lampard set to be named Everton manager, time is ticking on even more crucial move - signing Mason Mount at any cost

With former Derby County and Chelsea boss Frank Lampard on the brink of being announced as the new Everton manager, it is understood he is doing everything he can to bring Mason Mount to Goodison before the transfer window closes.

Despite Mount being an integral part of a Chelsea side sitting third in the league, who are Champions League holders and have a cup final on the horizon, Lampard is believed to be of the opinion the “unbreakable bond” held between himself and Mount, as well as “a sh*t load of money” will be the key to convincing his man to leave an elite European side for a club in turmoil and languishing near the bottom of the table.

“I’ve told the owners exactly how to get our man,” Lampard is quoted as telling our source. “First, we sell Richarlison, Dominic Calvert-Lewin, Jordan Pickford, Andros Townsend and Anthony Gordon.

“Then we do a whip-round with everybody in the squad chucking in half a million each.

“If we add this money to the funds I’ve raised through the JustGiving page that I set up when Chelsea binned me off, it will be more than enough money to table a serious bid,” the ex-England midfielder is reported to have said.

Having looked at Lampard’s JustGiving page titled ‘help Frank see his boy again’ – which has an astonishing £16m raised, mostly with generous donations from J.Redknapp, H.Redknapp and C.Lampard, – Paddy Power News questioned our source on how Lampard imagines the conversation will go with the 23-year-old midfielder if Chelsea allows them to speak.

“I think they’ll run into each other’s arms and hug it out for a solid 30 minutes” he confirmed. “It’ll be like the last scene of The Shawshank Redemption, only more heart-warming.

“There might be a few tears of joy and a bit of reminiscing about our time at Derby and Chelsea, but overall, the negotiation should be simple as Frank’s convinced he’ll play for us for near to no salary, just because he wants to be reunited with Lamps.”

With Lampard obviously looking to make big changes from the outset at Everton, our colleagues at Paddy Power News Italy have confirmed he was spotted heading from Rome to Milan on a Vespa last week.

While nobody knows the true meaning of his visit to Italy, the feeling is he is looking to bring both Tammy Abraham and Fikayo Tomori to Everton to join up with Mount.
