Champions League draw: Who Chelsea, Liverpool, Man City & Man Utd could face in last 16

All four English teams have booked their places in the Champions League last 16 but who could they face in the next stage of the competition?

Liverpool, Manchester City and Manchester United progressed to the knockout rounds as group winners, although title holders Chelsea missed out on top spot in their group which could prove key to their hopes of defending their crown.

That’s because the 16 teams left standing will be split into two pots – one with the eight group winners (seeded) and another with the eight group runners up (unseeded). The eight ties will see seeded sides face unseeded sides but there are two conditions over potential opponents.

The most important is that clubs cannot be drawn against a rival from their own country meaning there will be no all-Premier League ties at this stage. Boo! Secondly, no team can play another from their group. The group winners also have the advantage of playing at home in the second leg.

Chelsea

Chelsea conceded a last-gasp goal to draw 3-3 with Zenit Saint Petersburg and surrender top spot in Group H to Juventus, which means the Blues will be unseeded in the last 16.

Liverpool

Liverpool cruised to the summit of Group B, despite the four-team pool initially being labelled the Group of Death, so they are guaranteed to enter the draw as a seeded team.

– Sporting Lisbon
– Inter Milan
– Benfica
– Villarreal
– RB Salzburg

Manchester City

Manchester City bounced back from their away defeat against PSG by getting the better of Lionel Messi and co at the Etihad Stadium to guarantee top spot in Group A ahead of the final game.

Manchester City could be drawn against:

– Atletico Madrid
– Sporting Lisbon
– Inter Milan
– Benfica
– Villarreal
– RB Salzburg

Manchester United

Manchester United’s victory against Villarreal in Spain last month secured top spot in Group F so Ralf Rangnick was able to use their home fixture against Young Boys as a chance to check out some fringe members of his squad.

Manchester United could be drawn against:
