When is the next World Cup? Qatar 2022 dates, qualifiers and odds

Football fans around the world were enthralled by Euro 2020 and attention will soon turn to the 2022 FIFA World Cup in Qatar – and Paddy Power has all the information you need ahead of the tournament.

Qatar World Cup 2022 qualifying:

Qualifying games for next year’s World Cup are underway and will finish in November 2021. There will also be qualification play-offs which will take place in March 2022.

Qatar World Cup 2022 qualifying groups

Group A: Portugal, Serbia, Republic of Ireland, Luxembourg, Azerbaijan, Qatar
Group B: Spain, Sweden, Greece, Georgia, Kosovo
Group C: Italy, Switzerland, Northern Ireland, Bulgaria, Lithuania
Group D: France, Ukraine, Finland, Bosnia, Kazakhstan
Group E: Belgium, Wales, Czech Republic, Belarus, Estonia
Group F: Denmark, Austria, Scotland, Israel, Faroe Islands, Moldova
Group G: Netherlands, Turkey, Norway, Montenegro, Latvia, Gibraltar
Group H: Croatia, Slovakia, Russia, Slovenia, Cyprus, Malta
Group I: England, Poland, Hungary, Albania, Andorra, San Marino
Group J: Germany, Romania, Iceland, North Macedonia, Armenia, Liechtenstein

England are unbeaten in eight of their qualifiers so far and are expected to win their final fixtures against Albania and San Marino. Republic of Ireland, meanwhile, are out of contention after picking up one win from six fixtures and Northern Ireland have just five points from six games.

Wales have won three, drawn two and lost one of their qualifiers so far and Scotland are second in their group with five wins from eight.

Qatar World Cup 2022 dates

The 2022 FIFA World Cup will take place in Qatar from November 21 to December 18. The tournament is taking place late in the year due to Qatar’s climate and it will also be condensed to around 28 days.

Qatar will have eight venues in five host cities. Capital Doha, Lusail, Al Khor, Al Rayyan and Al Wakrah will all host games at the 2022 World Cup. The final will take place in Lusail on December 18.

It will also be the last World Cup to involve 32 teams, with a scheduled increase to 48 teams taking place from 2026.

Qatar World Cup 2022 odds:

France are currently the favourites to retain the World Cup in Qatar. Brazil are next in line, with Gareth Southgate’s England currently third favourites to win it all.

Spain, Italy, Belgium, Germany, Argentina, Netherlands and Portugal make up the rest of the top 10 in the betting.

However, you can get big odds on Scotland or Wales winning the World Cup if you fancy a British upset in Qatar.
