Following his “decision” to stay at Tottenham Hotspur Harry Kane has revealed he has sought advice from former West Brom striker Peter Odemwingie throughout the summer.
NEW TO PADDY POWER?
Now 40, the Nigeria international was famously so keen to leave the midlands club he drove to Loftus Road in the middle of the night to get a deal done despite the clubs failing to agree terms.
And, according to our sources, the England captain has sought out his advice in recent weeks – and could still lean on him before the transfer window slams shut.
“Pete’s been incredible”, a close friend of the striker confided. “It was his idea not to turn up for training – ‘City aren’t back, so Harry’s not back.’ is what he said.”
And he also came up with the idea of Kane asking Spurs to double his wages despite making a tit of himself this summer.
“All you’ve got to do is walk into Levy’s office with your car keys in one hand and a contract for £400k-per-week in the other,” was Odemwingie’s advice yesterday when Kane announced he’d stay for now.
“Tell that tight sod ‘I’ve a Vauxhall Astra with a full tank of petrol outside and I’m not afraid to use it.’
“He’ll be putty in your hands.”
Having three years to run on his contract and after embarrassing himself and the club with his antics this summer, the Spurs captain still appears to believe the club owe him a new deal despite being under absolutely no pressure to offer one, and the threat of driving to Manchester to push for a City move on Deadline day remains in play, according to our sources.
“Pete’s also been great advising him on short-cuts, lay-bys, sites of outstanding natural beauty Hazza can take in whenever he sets out for Manchester.”
“You can get there in about four hours now. Pep just has to give the word and Harry’ll be on the motorway.”
Meanwhile, Man City are stunned at the latest turn of events.
“Pep’s gutted. How can Levy deny Kane the chance to be coached by one of the greats?” a City source said.
“He’s still hopeful Sheikh Mansour will find a spare £50m in his other jeans and a deal can be done.”
If not, there is a back-up plan at the Etihad.
“We still have Jo’s number on file. He’ll do a job on the bench while Pep experiments with Nathan Ake as a false nine.”
